Description

Heinrich von Kleist's comedy "Der zerbrochne Krug" was published in 1808 and is considered one of the most important works of German literature. Village judge Adam holds a trial. It involves the sexual harassment of Eve, the daughter of a villager, and the breaking of a jug during the perpetrator's escape. It quickly becomes clear that Adam himself is guilty and tries everything to cover up the false trail.
At the beginning of the story, the clerk Licht talks with village judge Adam, whom he meets without a wig, with a head injury. Adam learns from Licht that Judge Walter is coming to the village to review the local judiciary. As soon as the judge arrives, Mrs. Marthe appears with her daughter Eve at the court and complains that her valuable jug was broken last night. She suspects Ruprecht, her daughter's fiancé. He was supposed to have been in her room late at night and broke the jug.
However, Ruprecht denies the act and claims he saw a stranger fleeing through the window with Eve. The judge finds Ruprecht suspiciously guilty. He appears nervously suspicious and wants to conclude the proceedings as quickly as possible... Suitable for ages 16 and up.
