Description

What weighs more: the life of an individual or the lives of many? A court drama by Ferdinand von Schirach. To prevent a terrorist from crashing a hijacked passenger plane into the fully occupied Allianz Arena, the Bundeswehr pilot Lars Koch decides to shoot down the passenger aircraft against orders — taking the lives of 164 people to save 70,000.
The grand criminal chamber of the Berlin district court deliberates whether Lars Koch can be convicted of murder. The defense argues that it was a balancing decision, as the pilot's action saved many thousands of lives. The prosecution accuses the pilot of disobedience, but above all, of violating human dignity, as he instrumentalized the passengers by weighing human lives against each other, even though they have the same right to life as everyone else.
The verdict is decided by the audience through a vote on the defendant's guilt or innocence, and thus on the judge's ruling.
