Description

How did the first tourists and printed travel guides describe the Flecken Schwyz and its surroundings? Which sights did they recommend and what did they warn against? On the two-hour evening walk, we view the town and the area through the eyes of British and German travel writers. Thus, the first Baedeker from 1844 found "little remarkable" apart from the picturesque location in Schwyz. Woldemar Kaden praised the "excellent paintings" on the town hall in 1895.

The highlight of the walk is the viewing of some medals by Johann Carl Hedlinger (1691–1771). The Schwyzer worked, among others, in Rome, Stockholm, and St. Petersburg. The collection of what was probably the most famous medallist in Europe at the time was recommended to tourists as "particularly worth seeing."
