denk_mal is an educational format of the Neugarten association. In this series, experts share their knowledge on sustainability, society, and education. Nature and environmental protection are often associated today with progressive or green political positions. It is therefore surprising when right-wing extremist groups demand the preservation of old forests, practice organic farming, or engage in animal protection. In fact, there are historical connections between ecological movements and the extreme right that still influence today. Stefan Rindlisbacher's lecture sheds light on this little-known history and shows how right-wing extremist ideologies throughout the 20th century repeatedly attempted to link nature and environmental protection with authoritarian, anti-democratic, and racist worldviews. Using concepts like "Blood and Soil," "Life Protection," or "Ethnopluralism," it becomes clear how ecological concerns can be ideologically appropriated and why these connections are still socially relevant today.
