Day tour: Grimselstrom is a varied day trip in the Grimselwelt, where visitors follow the path of the Grimselstrom. The tour combines hydropower, technology, nature, and impressive insights into the underground world of the KWO. Visits include the Kessiturm surge chamber, the Spitallamm dams, the Grimsel 2 pumped storage plant, and the unique Gerstenegg crystal gorge.

The day tour starts at the Grimsel Hospiz visitor center. From there, the Oberaarbahn takes you to the Kessiturm middle station. There, participants are given an insight into the surge chamber and the butterfly valve. These facilities show how the water in the power plant system is managed, regulated, and used to produce electricity. This makes it clear what an important role the infrastructure inside the Grimselwelt plays in energy production.

After the return trip to the Grimsel Hospiz, visitors enjoy lunch together with the tour guides. This is followed by information on the Spitallamm dams on Lake Grimsel. It becomes clear how important the dams are for water storage and thus for the production of Grimsel power. The tour combines technical explanations with impressive views of the mountains around Lake Grimsel.

In the afternoon, the tour takes the Hospiz Railway and the tunnel bus deep into the Grimsel granite. There, participants visit the Grimsel 2 pumped-storage power station and the Gerstenegg crystal gorge. The power station provides an impressive demonstration of how modern hydropower works and how energy can be stored and reused. The Gerstenegg Crystal Gorge is a particular highlight of the tour and shows the natural wonders hidden deep in the rock.

The day tour lasts around 6 hours and 30 minutes and takes place from 10:30 am to 5:00 pm. It is available for groups of 10 or more and is limited to a maximum of 15 participants. The tour takes place on foot and partly underground, so good physical condition is required. Sturdy, sure-footed shoes and a warm jacket are recommended, as the temperatures in the facilities are between around 10 and 18 degrees.
