But what happens when no one is scared or afraid anymore?
When cultures clash; when enlightened Americans prefer to give oil for its chains to the English ghost rather than run away from it? Then a ghost must either give up or fight the new owners. Strengthened by the heroic deeds of past centuries and equipped with all kinds of torture tools and a large arsenal of weapons, the battle begins in which it ultimately has to surrender to stain remover and a fake ghost. The scene is accompanied by a tireless housekeeper who would rather lead tour groups through the castle than serve the new owners without decency and integrity. Giving up seems to be the only remaining solution for both. Unless Virginia, the daughter of the new owners, is involved. She sees behind the scenes of the ghost, perceives its true feelings, and wants to help.
Whether she succeeds in freeing the ghost and finally bringing peace to Canterville, and whether this peace also applies to the aging housekeeper? For the third time, the puppet theater Mottenkäfig dares to stage this well-known story from 1887, which is more relevant than ever.
With this production, the 18-member ensemble aims to build a bridge between modern puppet theater and a homage to the classical puppet play. Emotional moments alternate with action-packed scenes; there is much to laugh about and perhaps even shed a tear. The ingeniously crafted puppets, designed and built by the late artist Rainer Mürle, with up to 20 strings per puppet, seamlessly blend into the newly designed stage set. Music adapted to the play and a specially developed lighting design for this production complete the evening. Be excited and look forward to an evening full of emotions and good entertainment.
