BRNO - CONSEQUENCE Forum: Housing Lessons from Vienna (lectures, discussions, exhibition) Thursday, October 1 at 16:00 at the VUT Tržnice Center, Zelný trh 250 Two architects, two countries, and a shared question: how do we design affordable housing and public space for a high quality of daily life? The keynote international speaker for the lecture panel will be Verena Mörkl, an acclaimed Austrian architect who co-founded the Vienna-based practice SUPERBLOCK in 2003. The practice is a leader in social housing and sustainable urban design in Austria. Mörkl will be joined in dialogue by Janica Šipulová, co-founder of the prominent Brno practice CONSEQUENCE FORMA architects, known to locals for projects such as the park on Moravské náměstí. The projects of both practices link community life with a focus on affordable housing for the wider public, whilst placing strong emphasis on ecology, quality public space, and traffic-calming measures in residential neighbourhoods. The keynote lecture will be supplemented by perspectives from an emerging generation of selected students from the Faculty of Architecture at BUT. The discussion will compare Czech and Viennese experiences and explore how ideas about modern housing are evolving across generations, as well as what both environments can learn from one another.
