Description

A survival guide for the 21st century! How does artificial intelligence influence our lives? Are we on the brink of digital dictatorship? German-speaking playwright and director of Israeli origin Yael Ronen (*1976) has created an original genre of dystopian cabaret that introduces us to the near future and humorously yet provocatively highlights the possible consequences of reckless technological advancement. The most important source of inspiration for her was the popular science book '21 Lessons for the 21st Century' by Israeli historian and philosopher Yuval Noah Harari, which deals with the phenomena of artificial intelligence, big data, and bioengineering, and their impact on society and individual moral decision-making. The characters in the play are faced with a series of unexpected dilemmas, where their main support becomes an artificial intelligence named Alecto, without which no one can live. People no longer have to make decisions themselves, as Alecto generates the best answers and solutions based on a wealth of collected data. The play pushes the development and consequences of technological advancement to the furthest extremes. In a humorous yet sharply critical way, it shows the dangers of digital dictatorship and how little it matters for the individual.
