Cie Hervé Koubi

Description

Hervé Koubi's company, with their energetic, powerful, and sometimes dizzying movement language, is fondly remembered by the Winterthur dance audience from the 2024/25 season. Inspired by five years of life between France and Algeria, the ensemble develops a dance journey through the past cultures of the so-called barbarian peoples around the Mediterranean.

Who were these barbarian peoples, testified by the Bible, chronicles, and ancient monuments? In Koubi's exploration of this theme, he realized that the various cultures continue to live within us to this day and that they connect the current Eastern and Western Mediterranean countries more than they separate them. The Other, the foreign, has always caused fear and still unsettles us today. The choreographer stages this age-old fear of the foreign. His athletic, expressive choreography is influenced both by the Oriental world and break dance.
