Description

Confessions of love to men, unpublished archival materials, and an endless research history Moritz Weber examines heteronormative Chopinology and shows how homosexual aspects have always been suppressed in Chopin's biography. The simple question of whether Chopin was "gay" is too short-sighted, because what is more interesting is how intense male relationships influenced his life, his art, and his legacy. Weber outed the Polish national hero, dismantled the pathos surrounding him, and revealed the human, sometimes amusing, traits of a genius. The focus is not on Chopin's personal story, but on an illustrious network of friends, artists, lovers—and a cultural epoch in which art, desire, friendship, and social roles were closely intertwined. Michael Schläfli will discuss his work with Moritz Weber.
