Description

As a pianist, composer, director, but above all as an artist who defies categorization, Chassol returns to Usine à Gaz with "Funny How?" — a new album exploring the musicality of American stand-up comedy. A concert that is also film and performance. Christophe Chassol has an obsession: to bring reality into harmony. Since his first "Ultrascores" (these hybrid creations where everyday sounds, film recordings, and compositions merge into a single work), he has been mapping the world with his ear, from Japan to India and Martinique to New Orleans. For "Funny How?" he sets up his microphones (and cameras) in the comedy clubs of New York and Chicago, fascinated by the verbal virtuosity of stand-up comedians. Dave Chappelle, Dulcé Sloan, Marina Franklin, and others become material for an orchestral work where soul, jazz, rap, and musical intertwine. In the concert, music and images perform together, once again proving that Chassol occupies a very unique place in the music landscape.
