Description
"She was born free and will die free," they say about her: "Carmen." with a period. After "Phèdre!" with an exclamation mark and "Giselle…" with ellipses, the 2b company concludes their trilogy of great female figures with this narrated and sung version of Bizet's most famous opera. Rosemary Standley's sensitive, folk-like voice unfolds its full effect in François Gremaud's playful staging. After his clever reinterpretations of a ballet and a drama classic, both also seen in Winterthur, the Western Swiss director now devotes himself to the portrait of the world-famous opera heroine Carmen. Rosemary Standley, singer of the bands "Moriarty" and "Birds on a Wire," narrates and sings the work accompanied by a small but fine orchestra. With a single, lively gesture, she shares the wonder, sensitivity, and power one feels when attending a performance of this operatic masterpiece with the audience. "Carmen." captivates with its charm, deceptive simplicity, and calculated playfulness.
