Description

What would have become of Gotthelf if sport had already been big business in his time and the times had been different everywhere? Maybe someone like Klaus Zaugg? We don't want to ponder. For four decades, Klaus Zaugg has been on the move in stadiums, stadium pubs, arenas, and back rooms of small and big sports. As a distinguished writer and chronicler, he has not only recorded triumphs and tragedies, accompanied careers, and portrayed personalities as only someone closer than anyone else can. He is also a chronicler who repeatedly describes his homeland in the borderland between Emmental and Oberaargau – the "Gotthelf Land" and its people. Now a collection of his reports, polemics, analyses, and anecdotes from 40 years of sports history is being published. It is more than a review: it is a journey through emotions, eras, and developments, told with sharpness, depth, and that unmistakable handwriting that characterizes Klaus Zaugg. Between great victories and quiet moments, images are created that remain. For all who do not just consume sport but want to understand it and want to know whether things sometimes still go on as they did in Gotthelf's times, for those who love strong stories. A book full of passion, experience, and journalistic mastery. "Klaus Zaugg is not one to stand quietly on the sidelines. He can't and doesn't want to. He loves to tell stories, preferably in the words of poet prince Gotthelf. He is present, opinionated, unwavering, and uncomfortable – a voice known in Swiss ice hockey." Marc Lüthy, former SCB big shot Klaus Zaugg (*1957) is the dean among sports journalists. He lives in Huttwil and has worked for 40 years as a chronicler, reporter, poet, columnist, polemicist, or analyst for various media as needed, is considered a restless distinguished writer, and has been named sports journalist of the year twice. The book collects a best-of of his columns at CH Media (watson.ch and printed in newspapers) and prose from Oberaargau/Emmental. Moderation: Marc Lüthi, former SCB CEO
