Description
From 1928 to 1930, this was the most productive phase of Bauhaus Dessau. Under the direction of Hannes Meyer, the design college received a clear functional and social orientation. Two new books focus on central aspects of this development – the interior and the realized housing construction. The authors present:
Hannes Meyer's Interiors. Furniture and Interior Design at Bauhaus Dessau 1928–1930 The collection is dedicated to the furniture designs and realized interior projects by Hannes Meyer and his collaborators – and systematically presents the related design practices at Bauhaus for the first time. It clearly distinguished itself from the previous "Bauhaus Style" and explicitly aimed to fulfill the social demands of modernity. Bauhaus builds. Laubenganghäuser in Dessau-Törten The monograph examines the modern "urban settlement" designed by Bauhaus from 1928 in mixed development. In Dessau-Törten, 500 bungalows and 21 Laubenganghäuser were to be built. In 1930, Bauhaus collectively realized five Laubenganghäuser with 90 "people's apartments." They testify to the "new building doctrine," the social agenda, but also to the sudden end of the promising modern project. The authors:
