Description
Farewell is always and everywhere. Every evening we say goodbye to the day. Every morning we say goodbye to the night. We say goodbye to seasons, apartments, dreams, to youth, strength, time, to untouched nature. Children go into the world, parents into death, lovers to the next woman or the next man. Farewells are our daily companions and teachers and often leave great wounds. But we like to forget that farewell can also be liberating. In her diary, Gabriele von Arnim tells for a year about farewells, about present fears and the struggle for confidence, about farewells to former selves, about zest for life and about the inevitability of the last farewell. The bestseller is one of the twelve current titles for which Bücher-Dates will be regularly offered again from November in the Zug library. Interested parties can exchange views on the reading online in groups free of charge. These digital reading circles – as well as the evening with Gabriele von Arnim – are moderated by the long-time SRF literature editor Luzia Stettler. Gabriele von Arnim was born in Hamburg in 1946. She studied, earned a doctorate and lived for ten years as a freelance journalist in New York. Afterwards, she wrote, among others, for Die Zeit, Süddeutsche Zeitung and WDR and worked as a presenter for Swiss television, Arte and Süddeutscher Rundfunk. She writes reviews for newspapers and radio, moderates readings, has published several books and lives in Berlin.
