Description
Reading and discussion with Tereza Semotamová, one of the most promising contemporary literary voices of the Czech Republic. Semotamová reads from her novel "Radikale Bedürfnisse" (Voland & Quist 2026). The discussion will be held in German. As part of the Berner Osteuropa Reading Series. Aperitif after the reading. Hana is a sculptor in her mid-thirties, who has just stumbled out of her inner "closet" into the world with her unfulfilled desires and repressed needs. Searching for a feasible way through life, she moves between the Prague intellectual bubble and a Moravian village, between the international art scene and urban periphery. From these poles, a rushing stream of thoughts, impressions, and emotions emerges. With humor and bitter irony, Tereza Semotamová gathers intimate confessions, interwoven with references to literature, pop culture, and current socio-political debates. Set around the pandemic, this creates a precise generational portrait — and at the same time an encouragement to face one's own needs, to allow vulnerability, and not to fear failure.
