The carriages from the 1930s to 1960s evoke memories depending on your age or make the train journey a completely new experience... in the dining car, there are delicious home-cooked meals, mulled wine, and other treats. Two markets – sparkling, romantic, and traditional – offer families, friends, and connoisseurs special moments of anticipation for Christmas right in the heart of Potsdam. The Potsdam Christmas season begins in the historic center: The “Potsdam Christmas Magic” transforms Brandenburg Street, Luisen Square, and Bassin Square into a sparkling winter panorama. Over 140 festively decorated stalls await you with handcrafted arts and crafts, fragrant treats from roasted almonds to mulled wine, and music, while the ice rink and a Ferris wheel make children's hearts beat faster. In the midst of Babelsberg, the “Bohemian Christmas Market” on Weber Square enchants with almost forgotten traditions. Vendors and artists showcase Bohemian craftsmanship, music groups provide festive sounds, and children can meet the Crystal Fairy and Santa Claus. Here, warm culture pulses in a historic setting. Although Potsdam is not far from Berlin, traveling by steam train is not only stylish but also an experience in itself, especially with the round trip through Berlin and the Potsdam Havel Lake landscape. Our train starts in Berlin-Schöneweide. Currently, the following schedules are planned (as of August 2026): OUTBOUND: Berlin-Schöneweide at 10:00 AM, Potsdam Hbf at 11:45 AM. RETURN: Potsdam Hbf at 4:30 PM, Berlin-Schöneweide at 5:30 PM. The final schedules will be available here one week before the trip. Exact times at www.berlin-macht-dampf.com. The star of the show is the steam locomotive 52 8079 (80 km/h, built in 1944, 1800 HP, weight 140 tons, length 23 meters). It temporarily replaces the last operational Berlin steam locomotive, 52 8177, which is currently being prepared for its main inspection by the Berlin Steam Locomotive Friends e.V. For families, there is a discount: traveling with at least 2 adults and several children, there is an additional discount for 2 to 4 children on the children's fare. For children aged 6 to 14, select the fare class "Child (6-14) for Family Ticket".
