Berlin Ceilidh Band - An A-Musing Dance

Description

A Ceilidh was traditionally a social gathering that originated in Scotland and Ireland and did not necessarily involve dancing. Instead, people would gather to tell stories, recite poems, and sing. Over time, however, music and dance became increasingly important and now dominate the main program of these gatherings. Jigs, reels, polkas, line, square, and circle dances are danced to live music played on melodeons, fiddles, whistles, and many other traditional instruments. In modern E-Ceilidh, traditional dance sets are usually danced, but the music can certainly be played with a mix of traditional and modern instruments, e.g., melodeon, fiddle, electric bass, and percussion. The beat of the music is usually very lively, the dances full of energy and easy to learn, even without prior dance experience. Berlin Ceilidh Band:
In December 2009, a few musicians and a dance instructor gathered in Berlin to organize an E-Ceilidh evening in the following January. What started as a one-time experiment was such a resounding success that we decided to repeat it. So, we continued with regular E-Ceilidh evenings, indoors in winter and outdoors in the park in summer, which remain very popular.
