The rough everyday life of the lobster fisherwomen becomes the setting of the inspiring novel «Hummerfrauen» about love and the strength of female community. With «Hummerjahre», Beatrix Gerstberger presents the sequel: departures and farewells on Eagle Island. «Die Hummerfrauen» was on the bestseller lists for weeks; it was created against the background of a personal stroke of fate: Beatrix Gerstberger, then an editor at «brigitte», needed a longer break in the early 2000s because her husband, also a journalist, was shot in Kosovo along with his photographer and translator. Beatrix Gerstberger was pregnant at the time and subsequently lived with her child for months in Maine, where she got to know the tough lobster fisherwomen in everyday life.
