Tugan Sokhiev conducting Michiaki Ueno cello Hector Berlioz Roman Carnival, characteristic overture, op. 9 Antonín Dvořák Cello Concerto and Orchestra in B minor, op. 104 Piotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky Swan Lake, orchestral suite, op. 20a Tugan Sokhiev, in his new role as chief conductor of our orchestra, offers an immersion into the world of romantic ballet with Swan Lake. Accompanied by cellist Michiaki Ueno, laureate of the Geneva Competition 2021, this concert promises great emotions, romantic exuberance, and orchestral virtuosity. Berlioz's Roman Carnival opens the evening energetically, while Dvořák's Cello Concerto contrasts with the nostalgia expressed by the composer for his homeland. Then, Tugan Sokhiev signs his own suite of Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake, condensing the ballet's iconic moments into a personal, dramatic, and intensely narrative reading. A spectacular concert to mark this new chapter of the OSR.
