Bach Gala - Arias & Duets from Cantatas by Johann Sebastian Bach - Rudolf Lutz (Conductor)

Description

Outstanding vocal soloists perform together with the ensemble of the J. S. Bach Foundation St. Gallen under the direction of Rudolf Lutz on historical instruments. As musical interludes, movements from Bach's lively Overture Suite in C major BWV 1066 are played. The orchestral music connects the ten sections of the program and continually sheds new sound light on the vocal treasures.
At the center are precious arias and duets from Johann Sebastian Bach's church cantatas and oratorios, which are rarely heard independently due to their embedding in larger works. The program spans an emotional arc from faith and heavenly protection, through readiness for death and confidence, to intimate union before the wedding altar. The rarely experienced combination of alto and tenor in duet is particularly appealing.
