We cordially invite you to celebrate the opening of our new exhibition Helen Levitt – The Street as Stage on Friday, October 23, 2026. Helen Levitt (1913–2009) is one of the most significant voices in 20th-century American photography. Over decades, she observed life on the streets of New York and found surprising, poetic, and often humorous moments in the everyday. With her unmistakable photographs, Helen Levitt significantly shaped street photography. She is also considered a pioneer of color photography. The comprehensive retrospective provides, for the first time, insight into Levitt's complete archive, which has only recently become accessible. Alongside iconic works, unpublished photographs and extensive archival material will be on display. An exceptional evening and an opportunity to rediscover Helen Levitt's work in its full diversity. Program 6:00 PM Doors open, reception 6:45 PM Welcome by Oliver Hagen, Foundation Board Member, and Sophie Haslinger, Director of the Fotomuseum Winterthur. Introduction to the exhibition by curators Joshua Chuang and Alessandra Nappo. Afterwards, snacks and drinks. The event will be conducted in German and English. Admission is free.
