Exhibition Dieter Holliger: EvANNAvE Pictures & Objects

From October 30 to November 15, Dieter Holliger, Head of the 'Fine Arts' department at Villa Grunholzer in Uster, presents images and objects at the Old District Prison and Building at Hochstrasse 4 in Pfäffikon ZH. "Stories move me. Some have already reached me, become visual, e.g., the story of ANNA." ANNA is a continuation of the work for the exhibition "VENUS VON MURI" from 2024 at the Muri Monastery. The portraits shown in the exhibition are timeless and fictional. They draw attention to the fate of four women: Anna Schmidlin from Muri, born in Boswil, Anna Bartalin from Muri, born in Maschwanden, Anna Suterlin from Muri, born in Winterschwil, and Anna Dickelmannin from Muri, born in the County of Kyburg. All of them were burned as witches on May 6, 1578, at the land court square in Bremgarten. As foreign bodies, outsiders in the world they found themselves in, they share their fate with countless other people, especially women like Anna Göldi and Christine in Jeremias Gotthelf's novella "The Black Spider." "Vulnerability, injury, and wound are core themes of many of my works. Also healing and recovery. Themes that encourage reflection." Dieter Holliger. In the Old District Building and Prison, Dieter Holliger displays his works alongside those of Eva Wipf, who, like him, experienced homelessness: "Today, upon waking, it suddenly became clear to me that I can’t put down roots anywhere. It would be a great mistake to believe that I will ever be at home somewhere." Eva Wipf, Diary 1949. The exhibition opens on Friday, October 30, 2026, from 6 pm to 9 pm, with a welcome at 7 pm by Felix Pfister & Dieter Holliger. The exhibition is open on Saturday & Sunday from October 31 to November 15, 3 pm to 6 pm.
