Even Madonnas Want to Please. In 1966, the Thurgau Historical Museum acquired a life-sized wooden statue of Mary, carved and painted in the late Middle Ages. It probably stood in a shrine in the monastery church. Like many others, the figure made of linden wood no longer met the visual demands focused on color and change in the 18th century. Therefore, it underwent a complete body shaping so it could wear beautiful clothes. Aesthetic appeal was important in the Baroque period.
