Arctic Meltdown - An Evening with Robert Habeck

Description

Where once eternal ice marked the boundaries of civilization, today the future of our security is at stake. The Arctic warming, which progresses four times faster than the global average, causes the ice to melt and creates international interests: interests that are to be enforced ruthlessly. Robert Habeck outlines in his new book "Arctic Meltdown. The Redefinition of the World" (Kiepenheuer & Witsch) the history of the Arctic, including exploitation by Denmark, told by the people who live there, and looks behind the scenes of world politics. He analyzes the American claim to Greenland, describes Russia's aggressive return to the "Red Arctic", explains China's grasp of the "Polar Silk Road" – and examines what the race for new trade routes and gigantic raw material deposits means for the rule-based order of the world.
