Description
Archiving the Universe by Stefan Klein focuses on dust in its multifaceted dimension as a fundamental component of the universe and life. The project opens perspectives on human existence in its ambivalence, on life from a theological and philosophical viewpoint, and very concretely on personal experience: dust is everywhere and reflects the complexity of the macrocosm in the microcosm. This opens a spiritual horizon, particularly regarding the question of remembrance. The timing of the exhibition between the Catholic commemorative days of All Saints and All Souls and the Protestant Day of the Dead and Eternity Sunday addresses this connection. The series Archiving the Universe combines various artistic elements. Photograms show dust that has accumulated at different moments. At first glance, they appear as maps of the universe; in reality, they display tiny particles in detail. Thus, they refer to the idea that all matter consists of the same, becomes the same, and is therefore interconnected. Additionally, the sound installation Recordings on Dust by Ben Glas and Stefan Klein complements this. Like dust, which can linger in the air for a long time, sound also floats in the space, connecting the individual elements of the exhibition. On selected occasions, the organ engages in dialogue with the sound installation live. The project was realized in cooperation with WÄCKER&GRAUPNER, the Church of St. Paul, the seat of the art pastoral of the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising, and the Preacher's Church.
