Description
“Three on the Organ” Organ trios by J. S. Bach and Max Reger. Franz Schubert’s famous String Trio in E-flat Major—arranged for organ Maryna Schmiedlin – organ How can three musicians play the organ at the same time? In this concert, the organ itself becomes an ensemble: three independent musical voices come together, respond to one another, and merge into a fascinating whole.
Johann Sebastian Bach brought the art of trio playing on the organ to its highest level of perfection. Two parts are played on different manuals, while the third is played with the feet on the pedalboard—a special challenge for any organist. Centuries later, Max Reger took up this tradition and developed it further into his own richly colored musical language.
Franz Schubert’s String Trio in E-flat major undergoes a unique transformation: originally written for piano trio, it is adapted for the organ. The two string instruments and piano become three organ parts—played by a single person.
A concert celebrating the art of making music as a trio—with just two hands and two feet.
