Description

In times when humans are about to ruin the Earth, such a social revolution as Orwell envisions would be a comforting utopia: animals take the matters of life into their own hands, or rather paws and claws. Society is reconstituted — without capital, surplus value, and money. Everyone is equal. - Ranisch and Rupf step into the ring of many animal characters and exemplify how a new "togetherness" emerges, where everyone supposedly benefits; some even a little more, but not everyone knows that. What initially appears as a harmless children's story in Orwell's work turns out to be a hard-hitting, satirical indictment of totalitarian systems. Text adaptation: Volker Ranisch Volker Ranisch (*1966 in Karl-Marx-Stadt) is a German-Swiss actor. Ranisch studied from 1986 to 1990 at the Theaterhochschule Leipzig. After graduating, he was engaged at the Municipal Stages Leipzig. Guest roles took him further to the German Theater and the Theater im Palais in Berlin and to the Schauspielhaus Zürich. Since 1989, Ranisch has also appeared in film and television productions. In the independent theater scene, Volker Ranisch is famous for his solo evenings, in which he — of course from memory — recites and performs literary classics, e.g., Thomas Mann's "Confessions of the Impostor Felix Krull." Since the 1990s, Ranisch has lived in Mosnang in the Canton of St. Gallen. The Graubünden-born Gian Rupf (*1967) performed after completing acting school in Zurich (ZHdK) for 15 years at various theaters in Germany: Wilhelmshaven, Tübingen, Düsseldorf, Bielefeld, Stuttgart, and Munich. Since 2006, he has been living back in Switzerland and works freelance. He also implements his own theater projects. In the city and on the mountain, he appears with "bergtheater."

From 1922 to 1927, he was an officer of the British colonial police in Burma. In 1936, he participated on the Republican side in the Spanish Civil War. Orwell wrote novels such as "A Parish Daughter" (1935) and "Emerging to Breathe" (1939), social reports like "Finished in Paris and London" (1933) and "The Road to Wigan Pier" (1937), and essays. He became world-famous through his dystopias "Animal Farm" (1945), a satirical fable about Soviet communism, and "1984" (1949), a future vision of a totalitarian state. Today, Orwell is considered one of the most significant writers of English literature.
