Description
Andreas Fath has swum the Rhine, the Tennessee River, the Danube, and the Elbe from source to mouth. The chemistry professor and former German champion in open water swimming has found his life's theme in H₂O and dedicated himself to it as a scientist and activist. He shares this in his book, which is both an adventure story and an environmental manifesto. He is passionately committed to water conservation to protect the most vital resource of our planet. Because for Andreas Fath, it is clear: "We can live without gold. But not without water." Engaging and comprehensible, he explains the consequences of microplastics and pollutants in waters and shows what drives him: the love for water. Born in Speyer in 1965, Andreas Fath studied chemistry and sports in Heidelberg. Since 2011, he has been a professor of chemistry at Furtwangen University. He is active in water protection and environmental education with the alliance plastic-free nature e.V. and was awarded the Order of Merit of Baden-Württemberg in 2025. "The chemistry professor from Furtwangen University never wanted to stay in his scientific ivory tower. Microplastics, wastewater issues, dangerous PFAS: Fath's topics are more relevant than ever. And everyone can do something for water purity: at the end, he lists some tips for everyday life. The book is a biography, water knowledge, and environmental protection wake-up call all in one." (Michael Neubauer, Badische Zeitung).
