Description

A hundred years ago, the young innkeeper Arnold runs a guesthouse in a Swiss village near the German border. Travelers, smugglers, and quirky characters come and go, even at night and across fields. When one day the mysterious rider Betty appears in the snow, Arnold's life changes fundamentally. Together with Betty, he builds a family, but the apparent idyll is shaken when their daughter Clara falls in love with smuggler Hermann in 1933. Tensions grow, he turns the uniformed on both sides of the border against himself, and the village must defend itself against a great power. With a keen sense for historical stories, Alex Capus tells of love, courage, and the search for inner peace in turbulent times.
