Description
A country at war, a woman caught in a conflict between her father, her lover, and her powerful rival: Verdi's "Aida" is one of the highlights of the opera repertoire. Musically moving, a highly emotional love triangle unfolds, where feelings and political calculation clash irreconcilably.
Egypt and Ethiopia are at war, the Ethiopian princess Aida lives incognito as a slave in Egypt. She loves the Egyptian general Radamès, who reciprocates her feelings, but she has a powerful rival in Amneris, the daughter of the Egyptian king. The conflict intensifies when Aida's father, King Amonasro, is also taken captive and forces his daughter to spy on her beloved. Unwittingly, Radamès becomes a traitor to the country, but the betrayal is discovered.
Verdi's composition tells the tragic story of Aida and Radamès with monumental choruses, intimate arias, and passionate duets – and with the world-famous Triumphal March, which has achieved cult status far beyond the opera.
