Description
Between the chapters of the novel »The Happy Fate« (Rowohlt, 2026), which centers on a Polish-Jewish scientist in exile, decades-long gaps yawn. Matthias Nawrat jumps in his book between the Archipelago Gulag and Solidarność in 1980s Poland. Also between forced labor in Germany and exile in Venice. Between statistical humanity and individual responsibility, between game theory, cybernetics, and social psychology. In the gaps, in the in-between, answers to questions that Nawrat does not pose might be found, but which the readers face: How to tell about crimes against humanity? How to judge participation in historical events? How to act in the present? Perhaps answers can be found in conversations with the author and the Bielefeld social scientist Kornelia Kończal, perhaps they contradict each other? In cooperation with Deutschlandfunk Kultur. Broadcast dates:
October 23, 2026, 7:30 PM, and October 25, 2026, 10:05 PM on Deutschlandfunk Kultur
