A Migrant Cartography – a multiperformative intervention where we will dance into your hearts! Full-body memories become dance theater. A Migrant Cartography transforms body cartographies of migration experiences into a performance with contemporary dance, conversation, live music, singing, and textile body objects – right in the audience.
Colorful, complex, delicately touching, and painfully loud, they testify to open, exclusionary, racist landscapes within our society. Yet, the images are rich in presence and individuality, curiosity, and joy of life.
Under the artistic direction of choreographer Andrea Lagos Neumann and her team, A Migrant Cartography translates these drawings and other themes of life in foreign lands into the third dimension. The performance expands cartography with contemporary dance, live music, text, singing, and numerous textile body objects – right into the audience. With clear words and gestures, it shows resistance, self-confidence, vitality, and joy among us. A Migrant Cartography writes new landscapes together with the audience. People on and behind the stage have come from non-European countries to Germany. People with questions about belonging. With experiences that are sad and heavy – but also marked by enthusiasm. After the performance on November 14, 2026, a discussion moderated by Freiburg migration expert and activist Kirstie Amono Angstman will take place with artists and the audience.
