80th Geneva Competition – Semi-final 3 of Conducting - L'OSR

The 6 semi-finalists conduct a 45-minute public rehearsal with the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande to work on excerpts from Debussy's La Mer, as well as the first movement of Schumann's Piano Concerto or Cello Concerto, drawn at the start of the test. Soloists: Kevin Chen (1st Prize Piano 2022), Michiaki Ueno (1st Prize Cello 2021). THE GENEVA COMPETITION – INTERNATIONAL MUSIC COMPETITION Founded in 1939, the Geneva Competition is among the most important international music competitions. Its goal is to discover, promote, and support young talents, providing them with the necessary tools to develop an international career. Each year, two disciplines are alternated, including piano, flute, oboe, clarinet, cello, viola, string quartet, singing, percussion, conducting, and composition. 80th EDITION – CONDUCTING & COMPOSITION This year, the Geneva Competition celebrates its 80th edition, with the return of the Conducting Competition, for the first time since 1994! The six semi-finalists selected after the first two rounds in 2025 will successively conduct the Geneva Chamber Orchestra, the Contrechamps Ensemble, and the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande across three events. The three finalists will then have the opportunity to conduct the OSR during two finals at the Victoria Hall, including a joint final with the Composition Competition. All events are open to the public and streamed live. They will be presented by journalists Charlotte Gardner and Antoine Pecqueur.
