8 Women

Description

Eight women are confronted with the murder of a man, with whom they all had a familial, romantic, and/or professional dependency. As they search among themselves for the perpetrator, they must drop their facades, admit lies, reveal secrets, and disclose something that has been carefully hidden until now. (…) From Ludivine Sagnier to Isabelle Huppert and Danielle Darrieux, François Ozon presents several generations of post-war French cinema's stars, providing all these great ladies with a representative, relationship-rich, and allusive platform. What a pleasure to watch them! He always signals that it is just a game, arranged with subtle delicacy and clever stylistic security for entertainment and pure enjoyment: anti-naturalistic, full of clever references to film history, especially to the numerous connotations that the eight actresses have created over their careers as icons of French cinema."
