2-Day Tour in the Gonzen Mine

Description

A very special mine tour! It lasts two days and focuses on the mine from the years 1920 - 1953, namely the Nausgrube, which flourished with the above-ground center consisting of two miners' houses, compressor station, workshops, and cable car mountain station.

We gather to start on Saturday morning at the Vild tunnel station and travel with the Gonzen Express through the base tunnel into the Gonzen. Accompanied by experienced Gonzen guides, we explore the "modern mining" of the iron ore back to the 1930s and reach the center of the Nausgrube (1000 m above sea level) in the evening. We eat and spend the night in a well-developed rock facility. The next day we continue to ascend to the historic ore mining of our ancestors. The descent leads us, in good weather, through the Gonzen forest, along the ore path, past the ore image, back to the valley. Around 5:00 p.m. we will reach our starting point in Vild again.

The 2-day tour is a strenuous mountain tour in the mine, with about 900 m altitude difference, on partly poor passages/paths and many dilapidated stair steps. Therefore, very good fitness and surefootedness are required. The temperature ranges between 8 and 13°C, the humidity is 90 - 95%. Good equipment with good hiking boots (not light hiking shoes) is important, flashlight, garden gloves, and sticks are recommended. You will receive a helmet and tunnel lamp. In a small backpack, you take your snacks, drinks, spare clothes, etc. for the way.
