Description

«Espoir» unites two different musical worlds in search of new connections. The program is based on a piece from the 14th century from the Faenza Codex, one of the earliest and most important collections of keyboard music. The original song was called «J’ay grant désespoir de ma vie» – «I have great despair in my life». In a later arrangement of the same piece, désespoir (despair) was changed to éspoir (hope) - despair became hope. This change reminds us that music always bears the handwriting of the performers - and each performance is a new interpretation. Through historical and new compositions, the two musicians reinterpret old melodies. The program is a reflective dialogue between one of the earliest and one of the newest keyboard instruments - the portative organ and the piano.
