Description
Jurgita Česonytė, the newly elected director of the Berlin Singakademie, will open the new season with Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy's cantata "Wie der Hirsch schreit" op.42. Robert Schumann rated it in 1837 as "the highest level" that Mendelssohn, as a church composer, had achieved. The concert program also includes Mendelssohn's early work "Magnificat in D" and "Da Pacem Domine" for choir and string orchestra by Pēteris Vasks. The Latvian composer, who grew up in a country that regained its independence in a "Singing Revolution," aims to "give nourishment to the soul" with his music. Soloists for the concert include Christina Germolus (soprano), Susanne Langner (alto), Christopher Renz (tenor), and Bruno Meichsner (bass) from the Berlin Singakademie. Jurgita Česonytė conducts the Kammerphilharmonie Berlin. Additional information:
