Description
For over 60 years, a big band has played every Monday night at the famous New York jazz club Village Vanguard. Originally named the 'Thad Jones – Mel Lewis Jazz Orchestra', the group now performs as the 'Vanguard Jazz Orchestra'. Over the decades, some of the most important composers and arrangers of the band, alongside Thad Jones himself, have included legends like Bob Brookmeyer, Michael Abene, and Jim McNeely. This group of pioneering musicians is an inspiration for all who compose for or interpret big band music worldwide. For fans, a pilgrimage to the Village Vanguard at 178 Seventh Avenue South (corner of Waverly Place) in Greenwich Village on a Monday night is as essential as a visit to Times Square during a trip to New York. But even this side of the Atlantic, you can hear the best of this music at Zurich's own legendary jazz club Moods: thanks to the Zurich Jazz Orchestra.
