Description
Chansons by Jacques Brel (1929–1978), compiled and enriched with texts by Grégoire Gros (arrangement for solo voice and chamber orchestra by Michael Barfuss). The singer and actor Grégoire Gros has translated original interviews, texts, and audio recordings of the Belgian chansonnier Jacques Brel (1929–1978) into German and created a fascinating and poetic concert evening from them. Jacques Brel is a fighter. A seeker. One who wants to know and must pass on what he has discovered. He is a humanist and fights for authenticity in people and community. He radically breaks everything else. Even if he himself fails at it. He continues undeterred. If necessary, alone. Grégoire Gros leads the evening as Jacques Brel in a captivating and touching way. The audience gets to know the many facets of the famous chansonnier personality. At the center are the chansons, the songs, which Gros performs together with the Zuger Sinfonietta and pianist Nikolai Orloff. They act like mirrors of Brel's personality, which Gros impressively conveys. In the sometimes thoughtful, sometimes resolute, sometimes hopeful, but also sometimes resigned chansons and texts, the intense, politically shaped life of Jacques Brel is expressed. A dialogue arises between Brel's music and his person – including all hopes, struggles, and contradictions. “Brel – the Serving Rebel” brings what remains of this still dazzling life to the stage, singing and speaking – a performance that offers insight into the universe of the great Belgian chansonnier and encourages reflection on ourselves. Grégoire Gros is a Swiss-French actor, raised in Winterthur and bilingual. He studied acting at the HfS Ernst Busch and has performed in various theaters and films, including “Tatort” and “Der Bestatter.” He now lives in Berlin. The Zuger Sinfonietta is one of the leading professional orchestras in Central Switzerland. Grégoire Gros, acting, singing, text, and direction
