Description
A piece of wood becomes a child, the child becomes a student, the student becomes a minister – and finally the president. Zinnober is the root being to whom, as if by magic, the abilities of others are attributed. With empty phrases and much noise, the little one comes to power. But who really controls whom here? Zinnober himself or those who give him words and form?
The production by Theater Marie questions the manipulative system of authoritarian power with a mix of acting and puppet theater. Between truth and fiction, science and magic, the adaptation of E. T. A. Hoffmann's fairy tale by the current Swiss literature prize winner Martina Clavadetscher shows how easily a society can be deceived and how difficult it is to stop this wrong path.
ZINNOBER! is a theater evening about projections and responsibility, appearance and reality – and about the ever-present lure of power. Coincidences with the current world situation and incumbent government officials are unfortunately unavoidable.
○"Clavadetscher's multi-layered text exercises much criticism: of us, of the media public, but also of the religiously underpinned worldview of the tech bros – there are also points of connection for this in E. T. A. Hoffmann." Aargauer Zeitung
