Description

The concert six-tone harmonium was commissioned by visionary Alois Hába for his opera Come, Thy Kingdom (1939–42). It premiered in Ostrava in 2018 at the NODO festival, where the instrument was heard by the public for the very first time. Pianist Miroslav Beinhauer learned to play it. The historical harmonium by August Förster immediately sparked immense interest among composers and the audience, leading it to travel. The story of this unique microtonal specimen from the 1930s continues – with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic, a new instrument, a copy of Hába's six-tone harmonium, was created in the workshop of Martin Poláček. This world unique from the collection of the Czech Museum of Music in Prague and the virtuosic playing of Miroslav Beinhauer have inspired dozens of composers to write new compositions. The inauguration of the new instrument will take place at two different concerts and locations in Prague on November 5 and 12, 2026.
