Description

Žalman has been active in the music scene since 1968, initially in the group Minnesengři, and later founded his own band Žalman & Spol. in 1982, which has been performing continuously in various forms to this day. The latest lineup change occurred in February 2017, and his current bandmates are singer Michaela Hálková, guitarist Petr Havrda, and bassist Petr Novotný (who has been with him since 1994). Pavel Lohonka rightly belongs among Czech folk legends and is one of the creators who have influenced the current shape of the Czech folk scene. He recorded 9 albums with Minnesengři and later released another 20 original records and 7 compilations, featuring more than 250 songs. He has contributed to the popularization of folk songs, especially from South Bohemia, some of which have had the opportunity to become popular again. His work is characterized by diligence, determination, and humility, making him a good example for many young folk groups. Some time ago, he was the first folk star to join the FOLK ŽIJE! movement, as he identifies with its goal – to bring the folk genre closer to people while also highlighting the young folk generation that has grown up completely out of the media's attention.
