The managing director of a legendary department store is found murdered. But before the police arrive at the scene, Leonora Bloch has erased all traces, as discreetly and thoroughly as she has been encountering all forms of disorder for 45 years as a cleaning lady at Dr. Bronstett. When the investigations lead to the oyster bar on the fifth floor, one is already in the microcosm of this department store, which lives on the paradoxical longing for past splendor and affordable luxury. And no one seems to know this world better than the 73-year-old Leonora, where glamour and misery, poverty and wealth meet so disarmingly. With The Oyster, the celebrated stylist Yael Inokai (*1989, Basel) stages a crime story that contains a finely woven net of human fates.
