Wiler Fastnachtsumzug

Description

The grand Sunday carnival parade is one of the largest events in Wil, with 20,000 carnival-goers. About fifty groups start from Rudenzburgplatz and proceed along Lerchenfeldstrasse to Schwanenplatz, then through the pedestrian zone of Obere Bahnhofstrasse. At Rosenplatz, the parade turns left and descends towards Bleicheplatz. The atmosphere is at its peak - young and old, locals and visitors celebrate the fifth season together in joy and good spirits. The best is at the end! After the parade, the burning of the Nörgeli (even years) or the fairy tale character (odd years) takes place at Bleicheplatz - an incredible spectacle not to be missed. Parade visitors, carnival floats, and guggenmusik groups gather, and the Wiiler Tüüfel jump around the Nörgeli/fairy tale character, throwing their subloteres into the fire. Three loud detonations signal the end of winter and conclude the official carnival of FGW.
