Thus, Johann Strauss' waltz bliss and dance-like lightness lead the audience right into the social hustle and bustle of the Congress of Vienna. There, great politics and private passions meet – turbulent and enjoyable at the same time. Remarkable is the pace of the plot. That everything takes place within a single day fits surprisingly well into today's hectic times. At the center are Count Zedlau with his various loves – and his wife Gabriele. When the somewhat overwhelmed Prince Ypsheim, in cheerful confusion, mixes up the count's ladies, the plot gains momentum. Disguises, amorous entanglements, and subtle intrigues drive the action forward until everything finally resolves with a charming wink – entirely in the spirit of the Viennese charm.
