Description

One of the most famous New York bands that sounded like they were from the West Coast was The Mamas & The Papas. Their sun-drenched hit "California Dreaming" was written in the living room of an unheated Lower East Side flat overlooking a littered courtyard. WIDOWSPEAK from Brooklyn sounds quite different, but their music is also driven by a longing for the West, the warmth, and the vastness of the horizon. While the unruly Velvet Underground guitars hint at their hometown New York, the songs of the band founded in 2010 push towards the light. You can hear majestic Western soundtracks, psychedelic country rock with surf guitars, but also dream-drenched indie pop of deep romantic beauty. For the second time, singer Molly Hamilton and guitarist Robert Earl Thomas are our guests, and we are very much looking forward to seeing them again. Until then, we have no choice but to listen to their new album "Roses," which will be released in June, over and over again.
