For some, this marks the beginning of a golden age, for others, the decline of early Christian ideals. The close connection between church and state led to a flourishing culture, but also to persecutors becoming persecuted. How did this connection between church and state develop? What did it mean for religious freedom? How were conflicts resolved? The lecture shows how the 'Constantinian Age' shaped Europe and continues to influence it today.
