Description
During the Christmas season, the popular men's choir of the Bolschoi Don Kosaken brings a piece of Eastern European musical history to Berlin. The trained opera soloists come from various countries and have been using their songs for decades to promote understanding among peoples.
The repertoire mainly consists of sacred chants, Cossack, Russian, and Ukrainian folk songs. From the softest pianissimo to the loudest forte, the artists precisely use not only their choral voices but also their feelings. Petja Houdjakov has been leading the choir for 40 years and travels with the musicians around the world. During Christmas, the program of the Don Kosaken is enriched with festive songs. In addition to songs like "Abendglocke," "Wolga-Wolga," or "Roter Safran," traditional Christmas melodies are also performed. With a bit of luck, the audience may also experience one or another opera aria. The singers are accompanied instrumentally by the Balalaika, a typical Russian plucked instrument, and the accordion "Aleksandra."
