What is with us? Glass animals from the Pierre Rosenberg Collection

Description

Through the prism of more than 300 glass animals, the exhibition questions the complex and ambivalent relationship of humans with the living. The variety of forms, expressions, and attitudes attributed to the animals reveals both our curiosity and our desire to understand the fauna, as well as our wish to control their representation and domestication. For this occasion, a film about the Palazzo of Pierre Rosenberg in Venice was specially made. The glass figures are shown in their usual environment - that of their collector, who has carefully placed them throughout the house - thus fully shaping the atmosphere of the place. By integrating this bestiary into the museum space - a place where objects are stored, classified, and exhibited - mudac adopts the codes of the display case to better break them. This shifts the focus from the observed animal to the human observing it, thus revealing the mechanisms of our ambivalent relationship.
